Eastern Market After Dark | Thursday, September 22
Celebrate Detroit design as one of the country's oldest public markets, Eastern Market, turns into a creative district by night. More than 30 studios throughout the district will be open late, and sheds 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be open with interactive experiences, brand activations with Detroit's up-and-coming designers, designer spotlights, installations and parties. This will be taking place from 7 to 11 p.m. This is an official part of the Detroit Design Festival, taking place the 21 through the 25.

Detroit Design Ball | Thursday, September 22
Taking place in Shed 5 at Eastern Market from 5:30-10 p.m., come out for a special DDF night of entertainment honoring a new vision for Detroit urban renewal. Some of Detroit's most exciting artists, designers, performers, enterprise and community organizations will be here. There will even be the 6th annual DDF Independent Designer runway fashion show. 2016 AIA Detroit Celebration of Architecture | Thursday, September 22
Join the best of the best in Detroit architecture, with professionals to emerging creatives, for a special evening in Shed 3 at Eastern Market from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be an amazing cast of creatives, companies and supporters, along with a red carpet experience, awards gallery, award ceremony, celebration lounges and cocktails. Detroit City of Design Summit | Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23
This two-day summit, hosted by Detroit Creative Corridor Center and Creative Many, is especially for Detroit's design community and international partners to explore building a better city through design. DDF 2016 Light Up Livernois | Saturday, September 24
The third edition of Light Up Livernois returns to Detroit's Historic Avenue of Fashion. With a focus on how great urban design can drive the economic future of the neighborhood, programming will include open businesses, fashion vignettes, urban redevelopment plans, musical performances and small business highlights. This is something you definitely don't want to miss.

This will be at 7 Mile and Livernois, in Detroit.

Open Streets Detroit | Sunday, September 25
Open Streets is a national and international event that Detroit is joining for two free public outdoor events, the first being this weekend from noon to 5 p.m. The event will cover a four mile stretch of major roadway, connecting Michigan Ave. and Vernor Hwy. People will have the opportunity to bike, walk, jog, skate and more through the car-free street. Participants that make their way through the street park will also be able to sample fun workouts, with everything from hula hooping, kickboxing and yoga. Dancing at the Detroit Yacht Club! A Peacock Room Pop-up | Sunday, September 25
Come out to the Detroit Yacht Club for some awesome vintage-inspired dancing. All skill levels are welcome, including beginner. At 2 p.m. there will be free dance lessons, and from 3 to 6 p.m., dance to the live sounds of the Big Band. It's $20 at the door, and there will be vintage-inspired shopping from the Peacock Room.

The opening of Sanford Biggers' and Matthew Angelo Harrison's is taking place at Detroit's Museum of Contemporary Art. 5 to 8 p.m. Residents will pitch ideas for design-based interventions for their neighborhoods to the community over soup and salad, letting attendees vote for the best idea.

Women in the City Celebration | Wednesday, September 16
Celebrate the strides that powerful and influential women make each day from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Bamboo Detroit. Learn from and celebrate three women who have devoted their positivity and drive to Detroit. Linda Walter from the Detroit Outdoor Adventure Cetner, Ellen Trudell a current Communication Coordinator for the Detroit Lions, and Sara Aldridge a music enthusiast and Detroit DJ will be on hand to talk about making their mark on the city. Wine and light bites will be available for guests, and don't forget to bring your business cards, as this is a great place to network and discuss how women can more up and support one another in Detroit. 2015 Made in Michigan Festival | Friday, September 18

Enjoy pure Michigan from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Civic Ice Arena. Start your morning with a Miles for Meals 5K walk to help raise funds for a senior meal program, and refuel with a Hog Wild BBQ contest, beer gardens, and food trucks. Get into the Autumn flow and grab a hot coffee and listen to local bands, while your kids enjoy fun activities. Walk around to see unique gifts, art, and products all made in Michigan this weekend.

Artworks Detroit 20th Anniversary | Friday, September 18

Need some new ideas for date night? We’ve got one. Come bid on 150 pieces of fine art, enjoy a strolling fashion show, and listen to live entertainment from 6:00-11:45pm to spice up your Friday night. Mix and mingle with tasty appetizers and delicious cocktails. Tickets can be purchased on the Artworks Detroit website at $75. Proceeds from this event go to Michigan AIDS Coalition to continue promoting HIV/AIDS counseling as well as testing, prevention, and educational efforts in metro Detroit.

September Detroit SOUP + Build Bazaar | Sunday, September 20
Come learn about and help fund a creative project in Detroit, while eating a delicious potluck dinner supplied, in part, by FoodLab Detroit. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a little mixing and mingling, the proposals start around 7 p.m. Different groups will speak about their projects they need funded in Detroit, and guests can vote for the project they think should win the money raised from dinner. Dinner will happen around 8 p.m., and the winners will be announced before everyone leaves around 9 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a minimum $5 donation and food to pass. Build Institute will feature 15 vendors from their monthly Build Bazaar, everything from artisanal candles and soap to fresh baked goods and handmade wares.

On The Town: Enjoy Five Days of Detroit Talent at DDF

5 Years. 5 Days. 500 Designers. The Detroit Design Festival is finally upon us. Celebrate Detroit as a growing global center of design, and share in the city’s cutting-edge designers from September 22 through September 26. There are countless events, lectures, exhibits, workshops, and more each day of this festival, so we have highlighted a few for you. Please visit the DDF website to RSVP to events, as well as locating the full schedule of events.

Tuesday is the first of the Industry Days. Attendees can look forward to a day full of workshops, panels, and conversations all diving deep into developing urban spaces and human-centered design. Following an afternoon of workshops, join us for an inspiring lectures from Paulina Petkoski about the Future of Fashion: Fast-Fashion and Conscious Consumerism. Petkoski is a fashion designer and stylist that has worked under Isaac Mizrahi, Diane von Furstenberg, and Rachel Roy. She is also the founding Style Editor for Grand Circus Magazine. Another lecture to choose from is Stephen Hobbs presentation of Defensive Architecture. Hobbs is an artist that finds inspiration in using video, installation, photography, and sculpture to demonstrate and examine cities undergoing significant physical change. With a focus on how visual design has played a part in city development and its rich history, one can appreciate the ever-changing city and learn how to appreciate its beauty - even in a time of destruction.

After resting up from Tuesday’s phenomenal experience, come back for a continuation of Industry Days including more workshops, conversations, and panels on Wednesday morning about everything design, architecture, and design policy. Similar to Tuesday’s scheduling, following the panels will be a lecture by Raphael Henry, who pursued a career in Industrial Design. He focuses on creating retail environments where products are focused on through unique furnishings, fixtures, and lighting accessories.

Eastern Market After Dark makes a return this year from 7 to 11 p.m. on Thursday. Visit Eastern Market and explore at your own pace of over 30 venues opening its doors and giving a rare glimpse of the behind-the-scenes atmospheres of the studios, workshops, retail stores, galleries, and every factor that goes into creating the artistic vibe of the market. If you can’t make it to Eastern Market, sit in on a lecture from Suzanne Lee at 5:10 p.m. about the Future of Design: Biology. This innovative fashion designer experiments with new materials and ways of doing things. She has used biology and design to create living materials. Look in on her radical vision as she allows you to step inside her mind and learn why the future of fashion is in science.

Friday and Saturday features the Design Village from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Immerse yourself in the talent of designers in this city as we have the opportunity to see a curated selection of the most innovative and talented designers pieces. There will be everything from accessories, apparel, homewares, interiors, and even transportation design. It will be easy to find yourself lost in the fashion and art, but not lost in the venue due to the easy to navigate sections based on industry. This event isn’t just for other designers; consumers and fashion enthusiasts will be sure to love it, as well.

From 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday make sure to stop by the DDF 2015 Official Closing Party. Mingle with other art and design enthusiasts, browse the Design Village, and see an unveiling and the announcement of the Metro Museum of Design Detroit. 21st Annual American Sewing Expo at The Suburban Collection Showplace

The largest independent consumer sewing show in the country is back and bigger than ever. Spend A Weekend in the County at the 3rd Annual Makers & Doers Festival
