StorySLAM with Shinola + The Moth | Thursday, August 3
From 7 to 10 p.m. Marble Bar is hosting StorySLAM with Shinola and The Moth! This StorySLAM will be all about finding your way to making a difference. Prepare a five minute story about creating change, together. This could be about how you hosted a bake sale for charity or helped a friend move. Seating isn't guaranteed and is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure to get their early!

D-Cyphered Community Opening Party | Thursday, August 3
The DIA is celebrating the opening of their new exhibit, "D-Cyphered: Portraits by Jenny Risher". From 8 to 11 p.m., experience music from Detroit's own Nick Speed, meet some of the hip hop artists featured in the exhibit, and enjoy light snacks, a cash bar and the chance to see the exhibition before it opens to the public. Detroit Beer & Wine Fest 2017 | Friday, August 4
Experience 100+ delicious wines and beers from 40+ breweries and wineries at the historic Grand Circus Park from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. - all while celebrating Detroit. This art fair at Maple Beach in the metropark will showcase dozens of artists across different mediums from all around the country. An annual or daily pass is required to get into the park but the art fair is free.

Detroit Hustle Author Visits Ferndale Library | Thursday, February 2
Author/reporter Amy Haimerl moved to Detroit with her husband after being priced-out of their Brooklyn neighborhood. They bought an abandoned house in need of refurbishment on Van Dyke Place in the West Village. Her newly released memoir, "Detroit Hustle," chronicles her and her husband's DIY efforts to turn the dilapidated home into a truly dynamic home for themselves. At the Ferndale Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m., you can join Amy as she discusses the book and the amazing comeback Detroit has made. She will also be signing copies of the book.

Detroit Legacy Ball | Friday, February 3
In honor of Black History Month, Detroit will host its annual Detroit Legacy Ball at The Roostertail. From 7 to 9:30 p.m., help celebrate local scholarship recipients and community awardees. Throughout these three communities more than $70,000 have been awarded in student scholarships and to local non-profits.

17th Annual Detroit Santarchy | Saturday, December 17
The only SantaCon event in Michigan will be a pub crawl through Corktown, Midtown, Eastern Market and Downtown Detroit from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Full costumes are required so get creative. Calling all craft beer fans: come out to Eastern Market for one of the largest all-Michigan beer tastings in the state. Trick or Treat Downtown | Saturday, October 22
Spend an afternoon of family fun in Downtown Rochester with trick or treat, a costume parade and firehouse fun. From 3:30 to 5 p.m. kids can trick or treat at some of downtown's best merchants. The costume parade will be held at 5:15 p.m., and from 4:30 to 7 p.m. come to the Rochester Fire Department (corner of Third and Water) for kids crafts, a Halloween movie and a spaghetti dinner benefiting Rochester Area Youth Assistance.

HarvestFest Detroit | Saturday, October 22
From noon until 5 p.m. come celebrate HarvestFest with the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and Park Solutions at the Dequindre Cut. There will be hayrides, face painting, giveaways, a birding workshop, bounce houses, family movies/cartoons, food vendors and more! Participants are encouraged to wear their best costumes. Detroit Zoo animals will be receiving pumpkins filled with tasty treats to eat, play with, roll around in, tear apart and smash. This happens each year around Halloween as staff members provide the animals with seasonal munchies as a part of its comprehensive program. Dodge for Detroit | Thursday, July 28
Want to relive your childhood? Grab some friends or coworkers for a round-robin dodgeball tournament to support much needed funding for the Boy Scouts of America. Teams will consist of 6-10 players and are guaranteed to play at least three games. If you don't want to play you can still show your support by relaxing and enjoying some of the best food Metro Detroit has to offer. The event starts at 5 p.m. and will be at Cadillac Square Park

Riverfront Relaxin' featuring The Breakfast Club | Thursday, July 28
Riverfront Relaxin' presented by Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is bringing free entertainment to Detroit the rest of this summer. You can enjoy live music and classic movies for free. There will be food trucks, games and vendors as well. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 8:20 p.m. This week's movie is cult classic The Breakfast Club, and the band is Rockstar, an '80s cover band. Make sure to bring lawn chairs and blankets for ultimate relaxation. Everything is held at West Riverfront Park.

Annual Village Sidewalk Sale | Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30
Join the Grosse Pointe Mompreneurs with special guests as they present Build and Craft: Make it Messy at the annual sidewalk sale in Downtown Grosse Pointe. There will be Lego free play, painting with Legos and the chance to contribute to a community art project. The finished product will go to the Kids Kicking Cancer charity. Grand Opening Celebration | Saturday, July 30
Join Michigan by the Bottle Tasting Room as they celebrate the grand opening of their new location in Downtown Auburn Hills. E. Rollins has teamed up with COCAD, Detroit's #1 creative community, to bring you their first mixer. As Detroit is making its come back, the creative industry is still heavily segregated. The Positive Event | Sunday, July 31
Bring a little positivity into your life and check out this event filled with vendors and speakers who try to keep a positive outlook on life and their businesses. There will be products from t-shirts with positive messages on them to healthy makeup options to stationary and so much more. There will also be speakers delivering presentations on all different topics from meditation to building a village. This will all be held at Nafas Fitness Studio from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Many of the proceeds will go to Project for Awesome, and you'll have the chance to make grab bags for the homeless.

Do It: The Art of Giving Recap

In case you missed it, last Thursday, May 26, the Art of Giving had its annual event at The Stand Gastro Bistro in Birmingham. Each year they benefit a different charity. This year it happened to be your's truly, DGG. It was truly an unforgettable and memorable night.

The event featured an amazing silent auction with items from Tigers and Red Wings tickets, to a vacation in Florida. There were also beautiful pieces of jewelry Darakjian Jewelers. Almost everything was sold, and all of the proceeds went to us. There were pieces from our designers-in-residence, as well as the paper dresses designed by Matt Richmond you may have seen on Fox 2 and channel 7.

A big hit was the Paint by Number, which was a painting of David Bowie. You could by a ticket and then you got to paint whichever square you wanted to. The painting turned out amazing, thanks to everyone that participated. There were also shirts available with the painting on it.

It was a great night with tons of laughter, smiles and amazing people. We just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone that came out and supported us! We greatly appreciate every donation, that goes to help our programming stay alive to help Detroit's fashion community.

Women in the City Celebration | Wednesday, September 16
Celebrate the strides that powerful and influential women make each day from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Bamboo Detroit. Learn from and celebrate three women who have devoted their positivity and drive to Detroit. Linda Walter from the Detroit Outdoor Adventure Cetner, Ellen Trudell a current Communication Coordinator for the Detroit Lions, and Sara Aldridge a music enthusiast and Detroit DJ will be on hand to talk about making their mark on the city. Wine and light bites will be available for guests, and don't forget to bring your business cards, as this is a great place to network and discuss how women can more up and support one another in Detroit. September Drinks x Design and DDF Kick Off | Thursday, September 17

Come drink, share thoughts about fashion, and network with some of Detroit’s creative community before the Detroit Design Festival. Drink, mingle and explore open studios from all the tenants, featuring some extremely talented artists in the area. 2015 Made in Michigan Festival | Friday, September 18

Enjoy pure Michigan from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Civic Ice Arena. Start your morning with a Miles for Meals 5K walk to help raise funds for a senior meal program, and refuel with a Hog Wild BBQ contest, beer gardens, and food trucks. Get into the Autumn flow and grab a hot coffee and listen to local bands, while your kids enjoy fun activities. Walk around to see unique gifts, art, and products all made in Michigan this weekend.

This festival will be held at St. Clair Shores Civic Ice Arena, located in St. Clair Shores.

Artworks Detroit 20th Anniversary | Friday, September 18

Need some new ideas for date night? We’ve got one. Come bid on 150 pieces of fine art, enjoy a strolling fashion show, and listen to live entertainment from 6:00-11:45pm to spice up your Friday night. Mix and mingle with tasty appetizers and delicious cocktails. Tickets can be purchased on the Artworks Detroit website at $75. Proceeds from this event go to Michigan AIDS Coalition to continue promoting HIV/AIDS counseling as well as testing, prevention, and educational efforts in metro Detroit.

Photo Day at Russel Industrial Center | Saturday, September 19
If you've been dying to take pictures around Detroit, or to get that perfect industrial background for your blog post outfit of the day, then stop by from 3 to 10 p.m. at the Russel Industrial Center, as the campus exterior will be fully accessible for photography. When you post your photos, hashtag #RussellIndustrialCenter so they can see your photos, and one lucky photographer will have their picture featured as the cover photo on Facebook for one month. September Detroit SOUP + Build Bazaar | Sunday, September 20
Come learn about and help fund a creative project in Detroit, while eating a delicious potluck dinner supplied, in part, by FoodLab Detroit. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a little mixing and mingling, the proposals start around 7 p.m. Different groups will speak about their projects they need funded in Detroit, and guests can vote for the project they think should win the money raised from dinner. Dinner will happen around 8 p.m., and the winners will be announced before everyone leaves around 9 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a minimum $5 donation and food to pass. Build Institute will feature 15 vendors from their monthly Build Bazaar, everything from artisanal candles and soap to fresh baked goods and handmade wares.

Oakland Mediation Center and Leon & Lulu have teamed up to raise funds to end bullying and youth violence at Fabulous Friday: Finds & Fun…on Wheels! From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine will be served while shopping the eclectic mix of upscale furniture, unique gifts and fun accessories. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Oakland Mediation Center’s implementation of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program in Oakland County Schools.
