FGI Detroit Fall 2016 Fashion Trend Event | Thursday, June 30

Corktown STRUT is Detroit's annual 3-day music, art and food festival over Fourth of July weekend. A long line-up of music and food/drink sponsors will make this event one for the books. The event starts at 7 p.m. on Friday and goes through Sunday until 11 p.m. There will be a shuttle available, so parking won't be an issue. Michigan RIB FEST 2016 with Fireworks Show | Friday, July 1 - Monday, July 4

Head down to the M1 Concourse for ribs and family friendly fun. Fireworks will be taking place Friday at 10 p.m. There will be live music on multiple stages, professional drivers doing laps in Dodge Vipers, craft beers, ciders, wine, cocktails, a rib cookoff, monster truck rides, pig races and so much more. Hour Detroit will be bringing the best of Detroit together at its 11th annual Best of Detroit party. If you haven't seen our fashion incubator, now's your chance. This local photographer has worked all over the world, but will be highlighting his life in Paris at the Robert Kidd Gallery in Birmingham. Industry Spotlight: A Swimwear Destination for Every Woman

Sometimes finding the perfect swimsuit can be quite difficult. That's why Trish Crowder created CustomSwimwear. She couldn't find the right size for herself, so that inspired her to create a business that all women would benefit from. Read our interview with Trish to find out more about her and the company.



DGG: Tell us about yourself, Trish.
Trish Crowder: I love life, I love what I do and also I love to kite surf.
DGG: Tell us about CustomSwimwear. 
TC: Custom Swimwear is a company dedicated to helping women find the perfect swimsuit fit. We want to empower women and help them feel comfortable in their own skin. What inspired me to create the first swimsuit was the fact that I could not find the right size for me, so I made my own bathing suit. They are made for any woman who has a hard time finding a swimsuit.

DGG: Since you've been around for over 20 years, how has the company changed?
TC: The company has been through a lot of changes. It started as a home based business and it grew so much the city made me move to a building. We have made everything from swimsuits, exotic dancewear, costumes and Christmas wear. We have done retail, wholesale and internet sales. Right now most of our profit comes from repeat customers who have remained loyal to our brand and that makes me feel very grateful.
DGG: What are your goals for the company today?
TC: I want to be able to increase our online presence, continue to have happy employees and be a profitable company.

DGG: What has been the biggest challenge with Custom Swimwear since starting it?
TC: It has been a learning curve, the biggest challenge has been learning how to be profitable.
DGG: If you could give advice to someone starting their own company, what would it be?
TC: Love what you do!
DGG: How do you take your coffee?
TC: I like my coffee with lots of flavored cream.
DGG: Ocean or beach?
TC: Both, beach to launch the kite and ocean to ride in.
DGG: Ideal vacation spot?
TC: Windy, sunny and warm. North Shore Hawaii.

First Class Committee is a men's streetwear brand founded in Austin, Texas and recently moved to Detroit where they now produce all of their clothing. Prince Tribute and Friday Night Live Funk Dance Party | Friday, June 10
Join the DIA in celebrating the music and dance legacy of Prince with an open-air party on the museum's Woodward plaza. DJ Thornstryker will be playing Prince's music from 7 to 9 p.m., while some of Detroit's best dance crews will be performing free-style and challenging each other to spontaneous dance battles. Dancing will continue at 9:30 p.m. with a live performance by The Mighty Funhouse and special guests. Help celebrate the anniversary of Detroit local and favorite pop, Vernors, with the Detroit Historical Society. Vernors floats, cream floats and Boston Coolers will be for sale at the museum from 1 to 4 p.m., where proceeds will be going toward the purchase of a historic marker to commemorate the drink. 2016 Home & Garden Tour | Sunday, June 12
The Historic Indian Village Home and Garden Tour Committee is hosting another two day tour in celebration of the successful restoration of its historic streetlight system. You can come either Saturday or Sunday, or even both days, if you wish. You will be able to view eight historic homes, two gardens, three churches and two schools. On Saturday, tours go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, tours go from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Do It: Hour Detroit's Best of Detroit Party

Want to experience the best of Detroit? Make sure to come down to Hour Detroit's Best of Detroit party from 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday, June 24 at MotorCity Casino Hotel. This memorable evening of fun will give you a taste of the best local restaurants and businesses Detroit has to offer. There will be amazing hors d'oeuvres and cocktails from over 30 restaurants, as well as phenomenal entertainment. The event showcases the best restaurants, bars, style and entertainment as voted by Hour Detroit readers in its 17th annual poll.

All of this will be happening in the extraordinary ballroom and Sound Board at the hotel. The event will be hosted by Amy Andrews from Fox 2 News, with entertainment by Killer Flamingos and percussionist Jared Sykes.

26th Annual Home & Garden Show | Thursday, June 2 through Sunday, June 5
Thursday kicks off the home and garden show, which is a fundraiser and ceramic showcase. Thursday night is the fundraiser party, which will celebrate and feature the newest Pewabic Ceramics. The party goes from 6:30 to 9 p.m. For tickets, click here. Starting Friday, the whole event will be free and open to the public with ceramic work from over 80 artists, docent led tours every hour and tons of family fun! DIA #InsideOutUSA Instagram Meet-Up | Friday, June 3
Inside Out is partnering up with the DIA and three other museums to host a contest. The contest consists of posting a photo of an Inside Out artwork you're near and uploading it to Instagram. The contest kicks off Friday with an Instagram meet-up at Eastern Market and the Dequindre Cut from 6 to 9 p.m. You can meet the DIA staff at Wilkins Street Plaza to pick up an art-finding map, and then you'll be on your own to explore the artwork in the neighborhood.
