Creative Salon: Debut Night | Thursday, April 27

Brunch Bites - Royal Oak | Saturday, April 29
We all love brunch, but when do you have the chance to visit 12 amazing brunch destinations in one day? Not often! From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. some of the best brunch places in Downtown Royal Oak are coming together to bring you an unforgettable event in the form of a self-guided walking tour. Some of the restaurants include Bigalora, Gayle's Chocolates, Mesa Tacos and Tequila, and many more! Tickets are $40, and you can purchase them here.

Bike and Brew Tours - 2017 Season | Saturday, April 29
Bike and Brew Tours are back for their summer 2017 season! From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., you'll learn about Detroit history with a bike tour as you indulge in beer and food. This is for all biking abilities -- so need to worry at all. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here. NTVTY An Upscale Mixer | Saturday, April 29
In celebration of the grand opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C., there will be an amazing night at the Charles H. Wright Museum! From 7 to 11 p.m., enjoy good food, music and conversation, while also celebrating 50 years since the Black Madonna chancel mural was unveiled in Detroit. Tickets are $50, and you can purchase them here.

The Art of Jazz - A Celebration of International Jazz Day | Sunday, April 30
The Dell Pryor Gallery is hosting a multimedia event from 6 to 9 p.m. in celebration of International Jazz Day. This event will be a combination of performance and visual arts, which includes Marcus Elliot on sax, Michael Malis on piano, Jaribu Shahid on bass and Kayvon Gordon on drums. There is a suggested donation of $15.

MOCAD's Got Talent: Open Mic | Friday, January 29

The MOCAD Teen Council will present an open mic night hosted by LaShaun Moore. This all-ages welcome event will include art, music, and a performance by the MOCAD Teen Council. There will be sign up list for guests to perform anything from singing, spoken word, dance or even playing a instrument. Admission is free, so grab your creative teens, and take them out for a fun evening in Detroit.

Sip, Swop & Shop | Saturday, January 30

Ladies, it's time to pamper yourself with some girl time. Thrift on the Ave is hosting Sip, Swop & Shop event featuring a wardrobe stylist to help you create a great outfit with your new piece, and an auction to get that new piece. All you have to do is bring up to five stylish pieces to swop with the other ladies and then shop all of the new treasures while you sip on something that will keep you warm. The event is free, all the gals at TOTA are asking is that you bring a bag of gently used work appropriate clothes to be donated to C.O.T.S and Dress for Success.

The Royal Detroit Gala | Saturday, January 30

The Royal Detroit Gala was designed for business owners, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to network and donate to the community. This event, happening at the Charles H. Wright Museum, is all about philanthropy, but let's not forget about the fashion as all guests will have a red-carpet arrival, so you will need to dress your best. Aside from the fashion The Royal Detroit Gala has chosen Crime Stoppers of Michigan to received a percentage of the proceeds from the event. Tickets to the event are $75, and available at www.royaldetroitgala.com.

On The Town: DGG got Launched! with the She Is Project

Launched! A Women’s Entrepreneur & Branding Summit was described at two parts business, and one part party - and that was exactly what went down on Saturday. This was a full day of interactive experiences that educated, motivated and inspired all attendees to light a fire underneath passions and ignite careers. It is also the brainchild of DGG board member Carlotta Tutt Holloway, founder of the She Is Project, and we couldn’t have been more excited to attend. It’s hard to give a rundown of the day because so much happened, but we’ll try with all of our might to recap in hopes that you get a serious case of FOMO and will make sure to attend next year’s event. 

Launched! started at noon with ongoing activities happening throughout the day, including DJ entertainment, YouTube training, 10 Second pitch training, headshots, a beauty lounge and a social lounge in the main room. The Social Lounge was set up with beautiful furniture from Sit On It Detroit, complete with a selfie stick, that was used extensively throughout the day. Another day-long activity was the Fem-Preneur Marketplace and Tasting Room that happened down the hall, and it was full of local talent.

Local entrepreneurs featured in the marketplace included Super Business Girl, Salika’s Handcrafted Jewelry, Green Bliss Environmental Home Store, Dr. Ray Natural Tees and more. It was an array of women from the age of 11 and up selling t shirts, jewelry, candles and environmentally-friendly items. A major takeaway from the market place were the young entrepreneurs in the room. Look out for the eleven-year-old entrepreneur of Dr. Ray natural Tees and twelve-year-old entrepreneur of Super Business Girl – they were very inspiring. But that’s another blog post. Stay tuned.

While the above activities were happening, mini workshops were held to educate women how to grow their money, buying safe hair products and how to master your business and personal brands. The crème de la crème of the day, however, had to be the Panel Chat, featuring five experts in the business of entrepreneurship. The experts include April Boyle, Executive Director of Build Institute and Co-Owner of Gold Cash Gold; Mia Ray, of Confessions of a Glamaholic; Carla Walker-Miller, President and CEO of Walker Miller Energy Services; Christen Rochon, media personality; and Pam Perry, PR Coach and Social Media Strategist. They gave great advice and got attendees excited about putting their passion to work.

While all of the workshops, panels and booths were stimulating, looking around to see all of the women in the room coming together to learn and connect with each other was hands down the most inspiring thing about that day. If you weren't able to attend Launched! this year, I would definitely suggest marking your calendars for next year's event, as it is something that should not be missed. Cheers, Carlotta!
