Do It: This Weekend's Style, Beauty and Fashion Events That are Not to Be Missed

This weekend is full of fun and fashionable things to do, so if you're itching to hit the town, these events will keep you busy.



Evening on the Ave | Thursday, December 8
Enjoy an evening of shopping, drinks, eating, music and more with this unique retail experience in Downtown Detroit. Grand Circus Issue 4 Release Party | Friday, December 9
It's time to party with the Grand Circus collaborators and contributors with a chance to be the first to see the brand new Fall/Winter 2016 issue. Taking place at Bank Suey, there will be free drinks and a DJ, This is an awesome issue diving into tactical urbanism.

Bank Suey is located at 10345 Jos Campau, in Hamtramck.


2016 Detroit Historical Society Ball | Saturday, December 10
The Detroit Historical Society is hosting their annual ball will be taking place at the iconic Joe Louis Arena to bid a final farewell. From 6 p.m. to midnight, come out for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, a seated dinner, entertainment by Nicole New, and a live and silent auction. There is also an afterglow from 9 p.m. to midnight with late night snacks and drinks, and a dancing reception. Patron tickets are $450, and afterglow tickets are $75 (or two for $100). Holiday Nights in the Village | Saturday, December 10
Take a step back into time and come to Greenfield Village to enjoy some holiday spirit. Tickets are $26 each, which includes ice skating, a ride in a classic Ford Model T, demonstrations, carolers, horse-drawn wagons and much, much more. Corktown-a-Glow | Saturday, December 10
Stop by Corktown all day for tons of holiday fun and festivities. There will be a holiday shop tour with free shuttle service from noon to 6 p.m., a Santa visit at 6 p.m., tree lighting ceremony at Bagley and Trumbull, caroling, specials at bars and restaurants, and donations of unwrapped gifts for children in need. Holiday Shopping Party | Sunday, December 11
Join The HSS Feed and your's truly, DGG, at L.K. Bennett in The Somerset Collection to get some items off your holiday shopping list. Cocktails and light bites will be provided, as well as the chance to get your makeup touched up by makeup artists from Dior at Saks Fifth Avenue and a braid bar from Blo Blow Dry Bar. 10% of proceeds will benefit DGG so we can continue helping the local fashion industry. This event is free, but you must RSVP here.

Do It: New Exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum Showcases American Style

Ever wanted to see a collection of clothes from the span of 130 years? From November 5, 2016 through April 2, 2017, you have the chance.



The Henry Ford Museum is getting ready to open its new exhibition: American Style and Spirit. This exhibit is a living catalog of style with selected clothing from the collection of lives of the entrepreneurial Roddis family. Letters, photographs and heirloom objects will bring to life the person behind each piece of clothing. The clothing revels a sense of self-expression against a backdrop of history.

To kick off this exhibition, there will be a preview party on Friday, November 4 from 7 to 10 p.m. You can be the first to see the exhibit while enjoying passed hors d' oeuvres and a wine bar. Tickets are $75, and you must respond by October 28 to attend.

Hour Best Dressed Fashion Show | Thursday, September 29
Come out to The Fillmore for Hour Detroit's Best Dressed fashion show, presented by The Somerset Collection and hosted by Amy Andrews of FOX 2. Celebrate with 2016 best dressed winners in style by sipping on yummy cocktails, eating delicious light bites and enjoying a runway show. Doors open at 6 p.m., and for tickets, click here.

Library at Night Tour | Thursday, September 29
Experience the Detroit Public Library's magnificent architecture and art underneath the stars at this awesome experience. This tour is a perfect date night, fun time with friends or just a wonderful visit to Detroit. You'll learn the hidden secrets, backstories and hidden nooks of the acclaimed main library. You decide how much your ticket will cost, but all proceeds will support the HYPE Teen Film Festival on October 15. This goes from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are available here.

Director's Cut Talk: Alger Theater | Thursday, September 29
Get to know DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons as he talks about his background, a brief history of the museum and what his plans are for the historic Alger Theater, where the talk will be taking place. You will have an opportunity to ask questions after the talk, and a reception will follow. The talk starts at 6 p.m. This event is free to the public.

Oktoberfest in the Park | Saturday, October 1 through Sunday, October 2
Come out to Atwater in the Park for a fun and free Oktoberfest celebration. There will be tappings from 4 to 6 p.m. and music, games and events all day long. You definitely don't want to miss any of the festivities at this two-day celebration.

Fall Flavor Weekends in Greenfield Village | Saturday, October 1 through Sunday, October 2
Celebrate and explore more than three centuries of America's food centuries during this fun-filled weekend at Greenfield Village. You'll be able to experience an abundance of harvest season flavors at the Saturday Local Roots Farmers Market (this is only from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), cooking demonstrations inside the historic homes and free samples of products. This is free for members, but non-members can purchase tickets here.

Hard Cider & Donuts | Sunday, October 2
Enjoy another round of hard cider and donuts at Michigan by the Bottle Tasting Room, but this time at the Royal Oak location! Donuts and cider will be available for purchase together or individually. Cider flavors include Verterra Winery Just Apple, Cherry Blush, Raspberry Rush, Blackberry Bliss, Sweet Peach Chaos Hard Ciders and the current on-tap Chateau de Leelanau cider.
