Recap: Fast Bash 2017

The party of the year has come and gone, but the memories will last forever. For those of you who didn't get a chance to experience Fash Bash, don't fret. There's always next year, and you can live it vicariously through DGG just by reading this post.

This year's theme was punk, and the runway and Fash Bashers did not disappoint. Leather, studs, fish nets were all the rage on the runway but also in the crowd. The soundtrack for the evening was straight out of an 80s time machine in the best possible way and guests were invited to create their own leather key chains complete with studs and stamps.

If you couldn't make it these year, keep your eyes peeled for ticket sales next year. The Founders Junior Council, Neiman Marcus and all of the other sponsors really brought it in 2017, and we can only imagine it getting better from here.

Female Entrepreneurs Masterminds | Thursday, June 15
The SheHive female entrepreneurs masterminds group is a place for like-minded women to share goals and resources, network, and receive feedback. If you have a business or are thinking of starting one, this is a great group for you to get involved in. Your first meeting is always free, and if you decide to join, it's $20 a month for a six month commitment. This meeting is from 6 to 7 p.m.

Brews, BBQ, Bourbon 2017 - Ferndale | Friday, June 16 through Sunday, June 18
All weekend 9 mile will be transformed into a festival celebrating cold brews, mouthwatering BBQ, smooth and smokey bourbon and great music! Sip & Shoot | Friday, June 16
Join Bamboo Detroit and Photo Sensei to learn about the art of cellphone photography while enjoying complimentary drinks and refreshments. You'll get the chance to capture amazing images of the city's landscapes while trying to win prizes and competing with your friends for the best shots. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here. Zingerman's Creamery Gelato Parlor Pop-Up | Saturday, June 17
Zingerman's Creamery will be hosting a gelato pop-up shop at Gayle's Chocolates from 3 to 8 p.m. There will be a variety of flavors, including everything from dark chocolate to seasonal coconut macaroon. There will also be live music! If you can't make it to this event, Gayle's already hand-scoops and sells Zingerman's gelato.

Cheese + Cocktails on Father's Day | Sunday, June 18
Come out to Detroit City Distillery from noon to 6 p.m. for a Father's Day filled with drinking bourbon and eating cheese. There will be a variety of cheeses and chocolates, as well as a flight of 5 mini cocktails paired with different cheeses.

David Lynch: The Art Life | Friday, April 21 through Sunday, April 23
The vivid documentary "David Lynch: The Art Life" will be shown April 21 - 23 in the DIA's Detroit Film Theatre. The film gives a look at artist and filmmaker David Lynch's experiences, insights, memories and obsessions that inspired his imagination and creativity. The film shows personal interviews recorded over three years, where he discusses how he's never stopped creating, his first masterpiece "Eraserhead" and the upcoming return of "Twin Peaks." The documentary will be shown April 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. and April 23 at 2 p.m. Following the film, each day a feature-length film Lynch directed will be shown. To purchase tickets, click here.

Detroit Gatsby Spring Soiree | Friday, April 21
After the success of Detroit Gatsby's sold out, winter galas, they are happy to bring you their spring soiree at Belle Isle's Detroit Boat Club. Inspired by the popular novel, The Great Gatsby, the night will be a blast to the past. Guests will be immersed in 1920s culture, fashion, music and entertainment. Tickets are $115 and include free valet parking, coat check, access to Belle Isle's Detroit Boat Club, a live orchestra and a strolling supper. The event goes from 8 p.m. to midnight. Trick or Treat Downtown | Saturday, October 22
Spend an afternoon of family fun in Downtown Rochester with trick or treat, a costume parade and firehouse fun. From 3:30 to 5 p.m. kids can trick or treat at some of downtown's best merchants. The costume parade will be held at 5:15 p.m., and from 4:30 to 7 p.m. come to the Rochester Fire Department (corner of Third and Water) for kids crafts, a Halloween movie and a spaghetti dinner benefiting Rochester Area Youth Assistance.

HarvestFest Detroit | Saturday, October 22
From noon until 5 p.m. come celebrate HarvestFest with the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and Park Solutions at the Dequindre Cut. There will be hayrides, face painting, giveaways, a birding workshop, bounce houses, family movies/cartoons, food vendors and more! Participants are encouraged to wear their best costumes. Hard Cider & Donuts | Sunday, October 2
Enjoy another round of hard cider and donuts at Michigan by the Bottle Tasting Room, but this time at the Royal Oak location! Donuts and cider will be available for purchase together or individually. Cider flavors include Verterra Winery Just Apple, Cherry Blush, Raspberry Rush, Blackberry Bliss, Sweet Peach Chaos Hard Ciders and the current on-tap Chateau de Leelanau cider.

Fash Bash is always the biggest fashion night in Detroit, and this year did not disappoint. Because of the potential rain (and heat), the party was moved inside, which offered guests a few more rooms to grab a drink, dance and chat with friends. The show was outstanding, but I'm sure you knew we were going to say that. Ken Dewey and the Neiman Marcus crew KNOW how to put on a fashion show. Once the show ended, the real fun began with delicious drinks, little tacos and hot dogs and a popcorn wall that was as good as it sounds.

Small Business Networking Event | Wednesday, June 8
The Detroit Art and Business Institute and the Anton Art Center will be hosting a free networking event for creative small businesses at the Three Blind Mice Irish Pub! You'll get the chance to network with other creative people, as well as meet and listen to how Andrea Rosenfeld, the founder/CEO of DABI, guides artists to make more money and increase their self confidence. Summer '16 Rooftop Fashion Show | Friday, June 10
Kick off your Friday night with First Class Committee, where they're gathering artists downtown on the top of Data Consulting Group's rooftop to celebrate the unveiling of First Class Committee's summer '16 collection with a fashion show. First Class Committee is a men's streetwear brand founded in Austin, Texas and recently moved to Detroit where they now produce all of their clothing. They will be providing beverages, but feel free to BYOB. This event is free, but donations are always appreciated. The event goes from 7 to 9 p.m.

Prince Tribute and Friday Night Live Funk Dance Party | Friday, June 10
Join the DIA in celebrating the music and dance legacy of Prince with an open-air party on the museum's Woodward plaza. DJ Thornstryker will be playing Prince's music from 7 to 9 p.m., while some of Detroit's best dance crews will be performing free-style and challenging each other to spontaneous dance battles. Dancing will continue at 9:30 p.m. with a live performance by The Mighty Funhouse and special guests. Non-alcoholic beverages can be purchased from 7 to 9 p.m. and there will be a cash bar from 9 to 11 p.m. The event is free, but registration is required here.

Vernors 150th Anniversary Party | Saturday, June 11
Help celebrate the anniversary of Detroit local and favorite pop, Vernors, with the Detroit Historical Society. All day learn more about Vernors and participate in fun events all about the oldest pop in America. Vernors floats, cream floats and Boston Coolers will be for sale at the museum from 1 to 4 p.m., where proceeds will be going toward the purchase of a historic marker to commemorate the drink. 2016 Home & Garden Tour | Sunday, June 12
The Historic Indian Village Home and Garden Tour Committee is hosting another two day tour in celebration of the successful restoration of its historic streetlight system. You can come either Saturday or Sunday, or even both days, if you wish. You will be able to view eight historic homes, two gardens, three churches and two schools. On Saturday, tours go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, tours go from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The tour starts at Iroquois St at Kercheval St., in Detroit.

26th Annual Home & Garden Show | Thursday, June 2 through Sunday, June 5
Thursday kicks off the home and garden show, which is a fundraiser and ceramic showcase. Thursday night is the fundraiser party, which will celebrate and feature the newest Pewabic Ceramics. The party goes from 6:30 to 9 p.m. For tickets, click here. Starting Friday, the whole event will be free and open to the public with ceramic work from over 80 artists, docent led tours every hour and tons of family fun! DIA #InsideOutUSA Instagram Meet-Up | Friday, June 3
Inside Out is partnering up with the DIA and three other museums to host a contest. The contest consists of posting a photo of an Inside Out artwork you're near and uploading it to Instagram. The contest kicks off Friday with an Instagram meet-up at Eastern Market and the Dequindre Cut from 6 to 9 p.m. You can meet the DIA staff at Wilkins Street Plaza to pick up an art-finding map, and then you'll be on your own to explore the artwork in the neighborhood. On The Town: Detroit's Most Fashionable Night of the Year

Oh, what a night! Michigan's most fashionable made it our for an evening of fashion, drinks and plenty of dancing to benefit the Detroit Institute of Arts. Cocktails were served behind the DIA to get the night started, and shortly into the evening everyone was ushered into the DIA where the Neiman Marcus fashion show began. It was a runway chock-full of fresh trends: flared bottoms, cape layering and folklore-chic. The show ended, and the night really began with the after party under the stars; fashionistas and fashion-fella's mixed, mingled and danced until their feet couldn't handle anymore.

Bikes and Yoga: Season Two Opener | Thursday, May 14

Detroit Community Yoga has partnered with H2O Insightful Creativity, and Healthy Detroit for Bikes and Yoga: Season Two Opener from 5:30 to 8 p.m. meeting at Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop. Get into gear and enjoy a nice bike ride along the river walk to the North Fishing Pier on Belle Isle where the yoga session will take place. Once the yoga class is over, take an easy ride back to the Wheelhouse and enjoy picturesque Detroit. Participants need to bring a bike, helmet, yoga mat, water bottle, and layers (depending on the weather), and the event is free and open to the public.

The Greening of Detroit 25^th Anniversary Gala | Thursday, May 14

Celebrate 25 years with the Greening of Detroit at its annual anniversary gala. The Greening of Detroit has been making their mark all around Detroit to make it a sustainable living area for years and have planted 6,000 to 7,000 trees annually in hopes of making Detroit even more beautiful. This celebration will showcase the amazing work that has been done over the years, while enjoying a five course meal, with locally grown food, drinks, and more from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Rattlesnake Club. An Evening of Art + Science | Thursday, May 14

Celebrate the art of science at the second annual gala at 6 p.m. at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Some of the best contemporary artists have created art inspired by the science and medical research of the Taubman Scholars. All scientific art will be auctioned off, and proceeds will go towards the DIA’s grants program. Have you ever wanted to take a burlesque class? Well, you’re in luck! From 2 to 3 p.m., take part in a burlesque workshop at Flossy’s Suitcase. This class is intended on making you feel your best inside and out, while giving you confidence and a work out!
