StorySLAM with Shinola + The Moth | Thursday, August 3
From 7 to 10 p.m. Marble Bar is hosting StorySLAM with Shinola and The Moth! This StorySLAM will be all about finding your way to making a difference. Prepare a five minute story about creating change, together. This could be about how you hosted a bake sale for charity or helped a friend move. Seating isn't guaranteed and is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure to get their early!

D-Cyphered Community Opening Party | Thursday, August 3
The DIA is celebrating the opening of their new exhibit, "D-Cyphered: Portraits by Jenny Risher". From 8 to 11 p.m., experience music from Detroit's own Nick Speed, meet some of the hip hop artists featured in the exhibit, and enjoy light snacks, a cash bar and the chance to see the exhibition before it opens to the public. 9th Annual Buy Michigan Now Festival | Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 6
The Buy Michigan Now Festival is entering its ninth year in Downtown Northville! Detroit Beer & Wine Fest 2017 | Friday, August 4
Experience 100+ delicious wines and beers from 40+ breweries and wineries at the historic Grand Circus Park from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. - all while celebrating Detroit. From noon to 10 p.m., the Washtenaw County Fairgrounds will be home to an incredible amount of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free food, entertainment on three stages, artists and crafters, Great Lakes regional food entrepreneurs, health and wellness products and services, pet products, and so much more! Night at the Museum: Intro to European Modern Art | Friday, June 30
The DIA is hosting an event to bring together young professionals in an art-enthused setting for "A Night in the Museum." This quarterly event increases awareness of exhibits/programs at the DIA and creates a culture of new art enthusiasts in Metro Detroit. The first installment of this mixer gives an introduction to European Modern Art by curator Jill Shaw. There will also be live music by blues singer Thornetta Davis and a cash bar in the Kresge Court. This is a free event from 6 to 10 p.m., but make sure to register here.

Michigan Rib Fest 2017 | Friday, June 30 through Sunday, July 2

Drop-In Indigo Dye Workshop | Saturday, July 1
A Wool Story is hosting a pop-up workshop at Eldorado General Store from 2 to 5 p.m. to learn all about Indigo dyeing and Japanese shibori techniques. Cotton bandanas will be provided, but feel free to bring your own white shirts or light colored garments. You'll also bring home instructions to recreate the designs in your own home. It's $40 and there is no limit to how many people can come.

Eastern Market Bike Tour | Saturday, July 1
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., explore Detroit on a bike ride starting at the RiverWalk, then to the Dequindre Cut, and then through Eastern Market. This tour will include information on the area's history and current development plans. You'll also get the chance to see the district's magnificent murals and do some shopping. Depending on time, the tour will also stop in Lafayette Park on the way back, which is home to the largest grouping of Mies van der Rohe buildings in the world. This tour is $30, or $40 with a bike rental, and you can purchase tickets and see the rest of the tour schedule here. The tour will start and finish at Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop.

La La Land | Sunday, July 2
So Long Sunday will be closing out its bicentennial themed "City of Stars" season with a showing of the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning film, La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The movie starts at 10 p.m. at the Rackham Stage.

Founders Junior Council Presents Cirque | Saturday, March 25
The Founders Junior Council, a group of young professionals and one of the DIA's largest auxiliaries, is hosting its annual masquerade ball -- Cirque. This year's theme is Mythos, focusing on mythology from all across the world. From 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., the DIA will have drinks, dancing and debauchery. The dress code is formal, masked attire. This weekend at the DIA explore the traditions of serving and drinking coffee and tea from four different cultures: Arabic, Chinese, Indian and Japanese. These cultures all have heavily influenced the way the beverages are consumed in Western society. This festival will include tastings and demonstrations in the Great Hall, performances in Rivera Court, and art-making and other family-oriented activities in the first-floor Student Lunchroom. Support Build Institute's entrepreneurial programs that directly impact and advance women's career opportunities by participating in one of the most fashionable fundraisers. There is a $20 cost (or $30 for VIP, which allows you an extra 10 minutes to shop before anyone else does, and a minimum of five items (clothing, shoes, and/or accessories) to participate. Volunteers will arrange all of the brought items into a makeshift store while guests indulge in food and beverages, beauty services and other fun activities donated by local businesses. Items must be currently fashionable, clean and either new or gently used. Any sizes are welcome and you may bring more than five items. All un-swapped items will be donated to Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit's Flip the Script Women's Service program. The event goes from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Empowerment Plan's 3rd Annual Fundraiser | Thursday, November 12

Michigan winters are brutal, even for those with a warm coat and roof over his or her head, so consider supporting The Empowerment Plan at the 3rd Annual Fundraiser from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Qube. In order to help some of Detroit’s homeless population get back on their feet, The Empowerment Plan hires homeless parents from local shelters to become full time seamstresses, sewing the iconic sleeping bag coat, so they can earn a stable income and gain back their independence. Enjoy an evening of delicious food from some of your favorite local Detroit restaurants, tasty drinks, great people, live music, and much more! There will also be an interactive coat wall that will track how many coats have been sponsored at this event. Small Victories: A Release Event with Flint Eastwood | Saturday, November 14

Flint Eastwood has released his first project in four years titled, “Small Victories,” and Assemble Sound felt that that is nothing but a great reason to throw another warehouse show. Flint Eastwood has created a national presence for live performances and “Small Victories” is another fantastic one. This piece is the culmination of years of songwriting for the Detroit-based artist, Jax Anderson. Flint Eastwood presents this piece, which translates years of performance and songwriting into recorded material, which generated an inspired electro-pop album. This album will premiere alongside a cast of collaborators that will also premiere tracks that night. Make sure to get there before it starts so you don’t miss out on the opening act that traveled all the way from New York City, Parlour Tricks. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, and tickets can be purchased ahead of time on the website.

Spirit: DIA GALA Late Night Party | Saturday, November 14

A much-anticipated event is finally upon us, the always-fabulous DIA Annual Fundraising Gala. The DIA presents, “heART of Our City,” to celebrate how the museum has played a role in Detroit’s cultural community. The DIA has an ongoing tradition of offering arts and cultural programs of the highest quality that help our city grow and develop. The Spirit Late Night Party is this Saturday, from 9:00 p.to 12:00 a.m., featuring delicious desserts, cocktails, a DJ, and dancing in Prentis Court. Stamps School of Art and Design has established the Penny W. Stamps Speaker Series, and this Thursday, the Institute of Humanities and the Detroit Creative Corridor Center (DC3) have partnered with the Penny W. Stamps Speaker Series to bring you Anna Sui: World of Anna Sui at the Michigan Theater. Starting at 5:10 p.m., learn about fashion design legend, Anna Sui, known globally for her bohemian and retro looks, who has designed everything from clothing, eyewear, and even fragrances. Her products are sold in freestanding stores around the world. As one of the “Top 5 Fashion Icons of the Decade,” we couldn’t be more excited to hear from the legend herself about her story, inspirations, and thoughts.

Michigan Craft Beer Stroll | Saturday, October 10

Michigan is known for it’s unbelievable craft beer selection, and we are lucky enough to have Royal Oak so close that we can appreciate these beers on a regular basis. The Michigan Craft Beer Stroll is a self-guided walking tour through Royal Oak’s top restaurants. As if we needed another reason to attend, a portion of the proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland and Macomb Counties. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 the day of. This ticket will get you a sample of food and sample of beer at each participating restaurant. A complete list of all the locations is provided on the website but we will highlight a few for you. Ale Mary’s, BlackFinn Ameripub, Goodnite Gracie, Hamlin Corner, O’Tooles, Onyx, and many more will open their doors and fill up your glass. The Founders Junior Council of the DIA throws this summer celebration of fashion and art once a year, complete with a runway showcasing fall and winter's most chic trends. Guests will enter at the John R Entrance for a cocktail reception full, head into the Great Hall for the Art of Fashion runway show and then head outside for an after party under the stars with drinks, dancing and late night bites.

Tickets have been on sale, but unfortunately the event is mostly sold out, however, if you are interested in attending the after party, you're in luck! The Afterglow is $95 per ticket, and reservations can be made through the ticket office at 313.833.4005 or at www.dia.org/fjc. Tickets will not be mailed, all guests will register upon arrival. Fash Bash® is going down Thursday, August 13.
