This weekend is full of fun and fashionable things to do, so if you're itching to hit the town, these events will keep you busy.

Grand Opening at The Somerset Collection | Friday, May 26
Alex and Ani is celebrating the opening of their brand new store at The Somerset Collection! There will be light bites, shopping and the chance to win free prizes. Lisa, the Detroit Tigers in-park host, will also be there. This event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To RSVP, email 'Somerset' to rsvp@alexandani.com.

Belle Isle Bike Tour | Saturday, May 27
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. explore Belle Isle via a bike tour. You'll see the beautiful architecture on the island, including the Flynn Pavilion, the Aquarium, the Boat and Yacht Clubs, the Casino and the Livingstone Lighthouse. There will be stops at the Conservatory, Aquarium and Dossin Great Lakes Museum. The tour distance is 15 miles. The tour will start at Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop, and you can purchase tickets here.

Kensington Metropark Art Fair | Saturday, May 27 through Monday, May 29
This art fair at Maple Beach in the metropark will showcase dozens of artists across different mediums from all around the country. There will also be gourmet food trucks, live art demonstrations and hands-on art activities. The art fair will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. An annual or daily pass is required to get into the park but the art fair is free.

Kensington Metropark is located at 2240 W. Buno Rd., in Milford.

Riverside Sundays | Sunday, May 28
Each Sunday you can end your weekend at Riverside Marina for a day of family fun with live music and food with other boaters. There will be BBQ and brunch, a DJ and live drummer, massages, and so much more! This event will be all day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Transient slips are free for everyone no matter what marina you're from.

Walk Fashion Show | Sunday, May 28
From 1 to 10 p.m., come out to Shed 5 at Eastern Market for a whole day of fashion. Designers include international, celebrity designer Stevie Boi, as well as some of the top independent designers in the country. You can purchase tickets here.

Freep Film Festival | Thursday, March 30 through Sunday, April 2
All weekend at various locations throughout Metro Detroit, come see amazing films that relevant to or are about Detroit, the region and Michigan. The films hope to foster engagement and create discussion about the issues and challenges Detroiters face while also celebrating what makes them unique. Presidential Ball 2017 | Friday, March 31
The Lawrence Tech University is hosting their third annual Presidential Ball at the Detroit Yacht Club from 6 p.m. to midnight. This event is open to all LTU students, alumni and faculty. The Presidential Ball is a way for all LTU affiliates to come together to celebrate accomplishments, while also enjoying an evening full of dinner, dancing and fun with friends. MODEL CALL for Walk Fashion Show: Detroit Edition | Saturday, April 1
The Walk Fashion Show is hosting a model call at Eastern Market Shed 5 for their upcoming show in May. Men and women are welcome, and attire is all black. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., ages 3-13 will audition, and from 8 to 10 p.m., ages 14 and up will audition. Make sure to bring a head shot or comp card. Attire for female models are skinny jeans or leggings, a tank top and stiletto heels. Attire for male models are jeans or slacks, a fitted T-shirt and casual shoes.

3rd Annual Power Moves Networking Brunch | Saturday, April 1
The third annual Power Moves Networking brunch is taking place at the Whittier from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At this event you'll be able to explore your abilities and limitations, gain access to an exclusive business seminar, view a presentation by Courtney Mone't Randolph of Pynk Mogul, network and connect with like-minded businesswomen, enjoy an amazing brunch with mimosas, and gain plenty of resourceful information! Metro Times United We Brunch 2017 | Saturday, April 1

At the Garden Theater from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., you'll be able to sample brunch, Bloody Mary's, mimosas, beer, wine and champagne, all while enjoying music and more! ORT and the City | Thursday, May 19
ORT, one of the largest educational organizations in the world, will be hosting a fundraiser that includes a silent auction featuring unique designs of wearable and livable art designed by students from the College for Creative Studies. The unique pieces are inspired by "Detroit neighborhoods" and include clothing, accessories and furniture from the Somerset Collection. A strolling dinner will be provided via various food trucks, in addition to passed hors d'oeuvres, dessert and an open bar. There will also be a graffiti artist creating a masterpiece, which will be for sale that evening. Tickets start at $100 per person, or $55 for those under 30. FGI-Detroit Fashion Tribute Luncheon | Friday, May 20

Join the Fashion Group International of Detroit as they pay tribute to Detroit fashion legends Rosemary Bannon and Linda Dresner. The luncheon will be held at the Heathers Club in Bloomfield Hills and goes from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are available here, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Barbara Ann Kamanos Cancer Institute.

The Vintage Market - Spring Market Day | Saturday, May 21

The Vintage Market is a vintage inspired, flea-market style, open-air shopping event featuring amazing local artisans, shops and small businesses. This time, it will be held at Elizabeth Park in Trenton, and goes all day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's first market of its kind to come to the Downriver area. Everything from gypsy couture to kitchenware, as well as delicious local food, and admission is free!

Sugar Islands Ice Cream Soc(ial) | Sunday, May 22

Come down and have fun with alcohol-infused ice cream! Aloha Donnie will take you on a tour of the Sugar Islands, including some ice cream cookie sandwiches, a boozy root bear float, champagne and sorbet mimosas and possibly a popsicle or two. You will be exploring new flavor combinations and concepts. The event will be held at The Sugar House and stats at 5 p.m.

Walk Fashion Show Sunday | Sunday, May 22

Calling all Detroit fashion enthusiasts! The Walk Fashion Show is returning to Eastern Market for a special one day show. The 13th edition of the show will feature established, independent and emerging designers, as well as over 50 Metro Detroit business owners, offering clothing and jewelry, live entertainment, great food and more. On The Town: WALK Fashion Back for Its 11th Show


If you need a fashion fix and you've been dying to explore Detroit's fashion scene, this is the weekend to do it. WALK Fashion Show, founded in 2009 by Daishawn and Crystal Bailey, is back from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturday, May 30 at the Garden Theatre, and it is a FULL DAY of fashionable fun. Also, a great excuse to dress in your chic-est outfit and show it off to the community, because if no one saw the outfit, it didn't happen. Am I right? 

The show begins with the Emerging Designer Showcase at 3 p.m. and will feature designers Noir Hart, Kamiki Ayo, GD Designs, Homage Holders, Heir Majesty, Max Marie and many more. Tickets for the general admission is $25, while VIP is $35 for the Emerging Designer Showcase. Following the first show is the Independent Designer Showcase featuring The Paper Dress Code by Matthew Richmond, Chasing Gold, Negash, Lady Liberty, Greg Gaten Taylor, Dana Keaton Collection and more. Tickets for this show range from $35 to $75, and doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the pre-show reception. Immediately following the last show is a Red Carpet Gala from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Garden Theatre.

If you’re interested in getting to know the WALK family and getting a head start on celebrating local fashion, head down to the Bosco Lounge in Ferndale for the pre-show party from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., Thursday, May 28. Throw back a few cocktails, network with other fashionistas and meet everyone involved in making WALK what it is. Two Shows in One Full Day of Fashion at the 10th Edition Walk Fashion Show




Midtown on Saturday, November 22. More than 2,000 fashionistas will be mixing and mingling at the event, which showcases models, designers and entertainers from around the country.

The doors open at 1:30 p.m. for the Emerging Designer Showcase, and shortly after, the Walk University Kid’s Showcase will start. Doors open for the second show at 7 p.m., with the Independent Designer Showcase starting at 8 p.m. The Independent Designer Showcase will feature Lyudviga Couture, Ashley Stewart, Blake Martin Productions and Chargrels Couture by Char from Project Runway.

Weavers & Fiber Artists Sale | Thursday, November 20 and Friday November 21
Once a year the Weavers Guild of Kalamazoo hosts the Weavers & Fiber Artists Sale, so if you are going to be on the west side of the state this weekend, this is something to check out. A wide variety of items such as table linens, towels, blankets, apparel and accessories will be on display and ready for a new home. Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony | Friday, November 21
Get into the holiday spirit and check out the Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event goes from 5 p.m. to midnight with the tree lighting taking place at approximately 7:45 p.m. American Idol runner up Jena Irene will be there along with a few other local stars. Food, drinks and live music will be available under the big tent in Campus Martius and don’t forget to visit the DTE Energy tent for free hot chocolate and the Ikea tent for free cinnamon rolls. Cap off the night with a carriage ride on Monroe for $10.

Silver Bells in the City | Friday, November 21
If you won’t be in the metro Detroit area for the Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony, go to the 30th Annual Silver Bells in the City in Michigan’s capitol. Enjoy a parade and then go to the sparkling steps of the State Capitol as you watch the State Christmas tree light up in Lansing. Following the tree lighting ceremony are fireworks that will cascade over the Capitol Dome.

The event will take place at Capitol Avenue and Michigan Avenue, in Lansing.

Launch Preview Party at Nora | Saturday, November 22
Douglas & Co. Detroit is a new small handmade leather manufacturing company, and they are having a party to celebrate the launch of their products and website. Come to Nora from 4 to 7:30 p.m. to shop the new products and enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres while doing it. For more information about Douglas & Co. Walk Fashion Show Detroit | Saturday, November 22
The Walk Fashion Show Detroit 10th will be packed with a full evening of fashion. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m., featuring 10 independent designers, including Char from Project Runway. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite and they range in price from $25 to $100.

Holiday Magic Parade | Sunday, November 23
Celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with the Holiday Magic Parade in Downtown Royal Oak. The Santa Scamper Fun Run starts at 1:30 p.m. followed by the parade at 2 p.m., which goes down Washington from Lincoln to Fourth Street. Once the parade is over, warm your body and soul with a visit with Santa at Stagecrafters from 3 to 5 p.m. Donate new, unwrapped toys for the Boys & Girls Club of Oakland and Macomb County’s Holiday Basket Program. On top of all of this fun, kids eat free on Sundays from November 23 to December 28 so stop by Downtown Royal Oak’s best restaurants for lunch.
