Fortress Resident Artists' Exhibition | Saturday, March 4, 2017
Cass Cafe will be hosting a collection of art from current Fortress Studios members. This exhibit will have art across various mediums, with everything from ceramics to metal fabrication to painting. The Detroit Artist Ball | Saturday, March 4, 2017
From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., The MATI Group will be hosting a celebration of Detroit music, art and fashion at the Tangent Gallery. There will be over 50 Detroit-area artists, as well as a fashion show featuring clothing from Happy Hookers Detroit and Stein Van Bael. There will also be live performances, food for sale and a photobooth. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Practice yoga at The Max Fisher Music Center to live chamber music performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The perfect summer event is here, join the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for an evening of music followed by fireworks on the lake. This two-day event starts on Friday with conductor Teddy Adams and vocalists' Will and Anthony Nunziata; then on Saturday the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will have music inspired by beauty and wonder of America. The grounds will open at 6 p.m., concert begins at 8 p.m., and fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. General tickets are $20 for adult, $12 youth, $50 preferred seating. They also offer VIP tickets that are $200 that include valet parking, special reserved seating, gourmet picnic dinner, private beer and wine service, and access to the house.

Artists Carl Rauschenbach, Katy Ann Gilmore and Scott Vincent Campbell will be opening their exhibition at the Red Bull House of Art. The house's first selection of nationally curated artists will feature work created during their three month artist residency. Doors will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public of all ages. Music will be provided by Erno the Inferno and Eastside Jon.

It's time for another open house at the Russell Industrial Center! The event officially begins at 4 p.m., but some studios may not open until after this time or even before. Cranbrook Contemporaries and Cranbrook Academy of Art's first-year students will be having a dance party outside of the Cranbrook Art Museum. Music will be by DJ duo Haute to Death. There will be a cash bar and dancing goes until 1 a.m. The event starts at 9:30 p.m. It's $20 in advance and $25 at the door. All proceeds support scholarships benefiting the students of Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Everyone is invited to come out to the annual Detroit Rummage Sale at Detroit's Tangent Gallery! 2016 - Annual Downtown Detroit "Meridian Winter Blast" | Friday, February 12 through Sunday, February 14

The Annual Downtown Detroit Meridian Winter Blast even is back from Friday to Sunday this weekend at Campus Martius. Free ice skating, cool ice sculptures, marshmallow roasting, a giant ice slide and other types of entertainment will be happening all weekend. Over 50 acts will be performing on two different stages placed around the event, and make sure you come hungry because a Taste of Detroit food tent will have local restaurants, stores and artisans on hand for you to grab a snack. This is a family-friendly event, so bring the little ones to play in the special kids zone complete with a warming station. Starting at 5 p.m., this one-hour tour will bring you through The Belt, One Campus Martius, the Spirit of Detroit and end at the Pure Detroit shop inside the beautiful Guardian Building. Over 20,000 people will gather for this free event complete with a warming tent, fire pits and beverages and food tent spread throughout Campus Martius and Cadilac Square. This family-friendly event starts at 4 p.m. with a children's ball drop happening at 6:30 p.m., and features live entertainment throughout the evening. 2016 Nothing Elegant NYE | Thursday, December 31
Official Detroit Pistons DJ, DJ Thornstryker, and Dine Drink Detroit have partnered to bring you Nothing Elegant, a night of dancing, drinking and celebrating the New Year in style. A 5,000 sq. ft., warehouse in Eastern Market will be open to guests at 9 p.m., and is hosted by Amy Kahrl, Sara Aldridge, Emily Thornhill, Scott Rutterbush, Andrus McDonald, Candice Simons and Godwin Ihentuge. New Year's Even Run/Walk - Belle Isle | Thursday, December 31
Exercise your way into the New Year at the longest continuously-held running event in Michigan. Beginning at 4 p.m., head down to Belle Isle for a 5k run/walk and enjoy a healthy activity before you celebrate the New Year later that evening. The first 1000 to cross the finish line will receive Finisher Medals, and a long-sleeved shirt is guaranteed for all pre-registered participants. Custom garment and upholstery workshop William+Bonnie has created something the fashion community is going to love. This company, founded in 2014, has created a new demand in the world of cycling in regards to fashion. As the amount of cyclists, both serious and recreational, continues to increase, William+Bonnie saw the perfect opportunity to create their first limited-run line of cycling wear. 

“While we find a romanticism in the one of a kind custom work we do, we saw a local demand for durable, yet fashionable cycling wear," says Sarah Ayers, Creative Director at William+Bonnie. "As a result, we have spent months sourcing American made fabrics, creating patterns and testing prototypes to develop our first limited­run line of cycling wear. With the same attention to detail and personalization as our custom work, we are proud to offer garments that are all designed and hand­crafted locally.“

After months sourcing local made fabrics, paying extreme attention to detail, and personalization, William+Bonnie is very excited to present metro Detroit with their locally hand-crafted and designed line. On The Town: Playground Detroit Presents Multi-Media Artist, Dessislava Terzieva

Playground Detroit is proud to present multi-media artist, Dessislava Terzieva, in her first solo exhibition this Tuesday, November 10. Terzieva has roots in Detroit, being that she received a BFA in Political Science and went to Wayne State University’s law school for one year. She has always been passionate about political and social issues and has found an innovative way to make them more expressive by “expanding on them through art.”

To open the dialogue and create a new way of thinking about political and social issues, Terzieva chose to communicate via art rather than communicating in “the system in which they already exist.” Terzieva started her artistic journey only four years ago with collage, and has grown leaps and bounds to where she is today. She has developed and created these collages that give items a newfound importance that can allow for open communication in this 360-degree, immersive experience.

Terzieva was inspired by drug busts, dollar stores, and the motor oil bottle aisles at Meijer. Based on these sources of inspiration, she has created a political statement presenting the layout of confiscated items, the topic of [dis]organized chaos, and excess. She hopes that the audience will immerse themselves in this piece and be able to consider their own views of spirituality once they walk through installation and arrives at an altar.

Gather up some friends to enjoy a Tuesday night of analyzing an installation while having open conversations about spirituality, excess, and chaos in our world. The opening reception for this exhibit is from 6 from 8 p.m. at The Playground, located at 1535 Sixth St., 3rd Floor, in Detroit. At this reception, you have the chance to be some of the first viewers of this piece of work that has transformed the space into a gift shop of an ancient cathedral that was owned by a revolutionary
