CREATIVE SOUL Workshop: Using Social Media to Market Your Creative Business | Thursday, April 21
Collaborating with Social Marketing by Amanda and the N'Namdi Atelier course program, the Creative Soul Series is a social media workshop aimed toward entrepreneurs and artistic people who want to get better at social media to promote their brand. With this hands-on workshop, attendees will learn how to engage online, grow your business, find quality content for your social media and have your followers engage more. Each session is about 45 minutes and will cover the best strategies and practices to make the most out of your social media accounts. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops and tablets. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the first session will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Meet Me In The Street - Live Streetside Fashion Show | Saturday, April 23
Darakijan Jewelers and Dolce MODA are teaming up to turn Downtown Birmingham into a live streetside fashion show featuring the new spring jewelry lines by Italian design house Rebecca and contemporary men's fashions. Look out for the purple and white swag bags, as each has a chance to win Rebecca jewelry from Darakijan Jewelers or a menswear item from dolce MODA. All proceeds will benefit yours truly, DGG. The event starts at 11 a.m.

PoshDeux Hair~Fashion~Makeup Event | Saturday, April 23
PoshDeux is having their third annual Hair, Fashion and Makeup Show -- a creative experience combining elegance and creativity. The best fashion and beauty professionals in Metro Detroit will be showcasing new dimensions in platform artistry. A portion of the proceeds from the event will again benefit yours truly, DGG. The event starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at Electric Studio.

Caffeinated Clothing Swap | Saturday, April 23
In honor of Earth Day, Always Brewing Detroit is hosting a clothing swap for all sizes, genders and ages. They'll organize everything, so just come down and get caffeinated while you build a new wardrobe. The swap goes from 12 to 4 p.m.

Girls Rock Detroit Clothing Swap | Saturday, April 23
Come listen to some awesome music while sifting for some new clothes. This swap is hosted by Girls Rock Detroit and Trumbullplex. There is a suggested donation of $5 with donation of clothing and $8 without. The event starts at 5 p.m.

2016 Spring Clean Up | Saturday, April 23
Come down to Belle Isle and celebrate Earth Day by helping bring the park to life again for this season. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Flynn Pavilion at 8 a.m. for registration and site assignments. Please dress appropriately and bring work gloves. Supplies are provided, but it would be appreciated you could bring a rake or any other tools you might prefer to use. Recreation passports will be available to purchase at registration. Afterwards, refreshments will be served at the Flynn Pavilion. Certificates for earned community service credit with awarded on site. Taste of Iran | Sunday, April 24
Peace Meal Kitchen will be hosting its first ever pop-up event featuring Iranian food and music. You'll get the opportunity to learn more about Iranian food, geography, language and culture. A large percentage of the profits will be donated to the OMID Foundation. No ticket or reservation is needed, just bring some friends, stop by and enjoy some tasty food.

Closet Essentials Workshop with Halston | Sunday, April 24
Discover the art of a complete wardrobe in a 2 hour professional styling workshop, hosted at Halston Heritage in Somerset Collection South. Hosted by personal stylists Courtney Camp Miarka of Closet Fashion Fix and Dana Miles Frost of The Closet Confessional, guests will learn the twelve essential pieces every closet needs and how to wear them to created endless outfits. Attendees will also receive personalized styling tips that can be used to create new outfits with the clothes you already have. Shop for closet essentials with the help of personal shoppers, and bring one personal clothing item that you would like help styling to get some advice. Valuable styling resources will be available to take home after this workshop. Oh, Shop It: Register for the Mind Your Art Business Training Course

The Detroit Art and Business Institute is partnering up with ACCESS Growth Center for their 3rd semester of the Mind Your Art Business training course.

It's an 8-week program specifically for the creative industries in Southeast Michigan. April Drinks x Design: Fashion + Accessories | Thursday, April 14

For the month of April DC3 will be teaming up with Grand Circus Magazine, Orleans + Winder, and Brooklyn Outdoor for a celebration of fashion in Detroit. This celebration will take place on the corner of Russell and Winder at Brooklyn Outdoor. Detroit Vs. Everybody will have extended hours on the first floor, and guests can enjoy avant-garde styles from Orleans + Winder with live models showcasing the Spring/ Summer 2016 collection on the second floor. They didn’t forget about the food, which will take place in the third floor along with music, a place to lounge, and a pop-up retail experience. After all the fun is over you can hang around for the screening of “The True Cost” at Orleans + Winder. This event is for 21+ only.

OPTIK Detroit Pop-Up Kickoff | Thursday, April 7

All month long OPTIK Birmingham and Oakland Ophthalmic Surgery will have a pop-up eyewear shop in the Detroit Midtown/Cass Corridor neighborhood. Unique frames from DITA Eyewear and Vinylize by Tipton (just to name a few) are available to browse, try on and purchase. The kick off event for this pop up starts at 4 p.m., and proceeds this month will go towards Covenant House Michigan.

Tiger's 2016 Opening Day | Friday, April 8

Hey batter, batter; swing batter, batter swing... Yes, Opening Day is Friday, and everyone in the city is excited. Although the weather will be the coldest in Tigers Opening Day in Comerica Park in history, that will not keep our fans at home. There are tons of things to do on Opening Day, and here a few options:

Detroit Home Opener Festival 2016: The largest party going on tomorrow and they will have giant heated tents; you can party indoors or out, beer tents and full bars, a food truck rally, music games and much more. Start your day at 9 a.m., the festival is located at 440 Madison Ave and Brush St. 

Park Bar: Enjoy live music, food, and the best is that Comerica is right across to street. Park Bar will open at 8 a.m., and there are over 48 beers on draft, full bar, and a great game to enjoy. 

Town Pump: Not only is Town Pump celebrating Tiger’s Opening Day, but also this year markers the 20^th Opening Day at Town Pump. They will be throwing a huge party to celebrate both and they open at 8am.

Opening Day at The Belt: The art-filled alley located between Broadway and Library Street will have food, beer, cocktails, and music to enjoy while the game is happening.

Detroit is The New Black Game Day Pop-Up: Shop and celebrate Opening Day all at that same time with DITNB. Popcorn will be served along with its classic apparel.

Great Lakes Art Fair | Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10

The Great Lake Art Fair is an annual fair that offers fine artists in the region a reliable, regularly scheduled, weather-free marketplace to showcase beautiful work. Growing every year, this art fair is a destination event for artist and persons alike. Great Lakes Art Fair will have over 200 artists with something for everybody. Tickets are $7 for adults, admission is free for children.

The Ultimate Day Party | Sunday April 10

Local Designer Series: Knitwear and Jewelry Designer Lets Her Hands Do the Walking

Two Stix 5 Stones is a local knitwear and jewelry line with an bohemian chic style -- I mean, she knits free form, meaning she doesn't have a plan and she just lets her hands do the walking. If that's not bohemian, I don't know what is! Read about this local designer, and see what else she has to offer on her website.

DGG: Tell us about yourself, Beth.

Beth H: I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture several years ago. When I have time, I love to shoot photography and paint abstractly.

DGG: Tell us about Two Stix 5 Stones.

BH: I specialize in knits and accessories (shawls, halter tops, hats, jewelry, etc.) with an artistic flair. The knits are made with high quality exotic yarns including cotton, rayon, silk, linen, wool and other fine yarns. Each knit piece is hand-blend with as many as 16 yarns. I also make jewelry out of fiber, wire, beads & stones (hence the name of my business).

DGG: Why knit? What do you like about knitting versus sewing?

BH: Knitting is more versatile for me. I knit free-form and let the garment evolve. Often times, I do not know what I am making until I finish the piece. I believe “planning” on what I am going to make hampers the design process. I also like that knitting is “travel friendly” and I can take my office to the coffee shop.

DGG: What kinds of products do you sell, and where can people buy them?

BH: I sell shawls, scarves, halter tops, hats, fingerless gloves, fiber accessories and jewelry. I do a few fine art fairs, farmer’s markets and special events throughout the year. My next scheduled art fairs will be the Palmer Park Art Fair ( May 14 and 15) and The Grand Haven Art Festival (June 25 and 26).

DGG: What inspires you to create your products?

BH: I am inspired by nature, painting, weather, etc.

DGG: What does your workspace look like?

BH: My “workspace” is an absolute mess with knitting needles, yarn, beads and stones everywhere!

DGG: If you could dress anyone in your products, who would it be and why?

BH: I would love to dress the Olsen twins because their look is classy and sophisticated with an edge.

DGG: What has been your biggest learning experience throughout the process of starting and growing your business?

BH: Producing items with a modest price point.

DGG: Describe your style.

BH: My style is fashionable but timeless.

DGG: How do you take your coffee?

BH: Cream Only...
